Piergiorgio caputured this image of women working in the fields around Shibam, Yemen. This image was used in a book by Idea Libri, published in 2 Italian editions between 1989 and 1993. Piergiogorio and Pietro Tarallo traveled the country and documented the cities and towns, as well as the people and customs of the Middle East and North Africa. The two made 3 to 4 trips overall before the book was realized. This was just one of many images captured on their fascinating journey.
Sclarandis begain his photography career in 1963. For 3 years he worked in the iconography office of an established publishing house, UTET and in 1967 left this to pursue opening his own photographic studio. In 1970, he moved to New York City for a brief period, photographing the architectural works of the likes of Norman Jaffe, Siguard Johnson and Myron Goldfinger. Piergiorgio has realized photographic narratives for a number of major publications across the United States and Europe. Specializing in industrial, architectural and corporate photography, Sclarandis has published more than thirty books since 1978, and continues to prosper in the field.
"Sclarandis was and remains, to this day, the ultimate professional.  In the early days of commercial photography, Piergiorgio was the go-to guy for everything —architecture to portraiture, he excels in all fields.  Black Star is proud to have represented such a brilliant artist." —Ben Chapnick, President of Black Star
